White Hen New England has been bought by 7-11.
There has been a White Hen Pantry next to my house since I have lived here.
I have always relied on it for fresh deli, Italian sprinkle cookies, whoopie pies, and a great array of grocery items that will no long be at my reach 24/7. Its also next to a great liquor store called Bunghole Liquors.

My favorite was being able to get a fresh sandwich made with quality deli meat. I was hankering for some provolone and salami; I couldn't get it, I noticed the deli was being taken apart and replaced with pre-made rib sandwich containers and nacho cheese machines and fake chili.

It was sad, I went to Bunghole liqours and bought some red wine and toasted the Jewish New Year and the passing of The White Hen Pantry.

This is a great North Shore hidden jem for bakery addicts and sweet tooth's alike.
Check out Coffee Time Bake Shop in Salem for some old school goodness.
My personal favorites are the following:

They have everything from fruit torts to bagels, even pizza.
They have a counter you can sit and enjoy your bakery item with a friend or get it to go.

Salmon Diner with Dank Potato Wedges and a Strawberry Rhubarb Apple Pie with Crumble Topping.

Ingredients:
Single serving of salmon,
in ziplock bag with lemon juice, soy sauce.

Sauteed on med-high in EVOO for about 3 minutes each side till good color browns the flavor with salt and pepper.

Potatoes:
cut in wedges,
salt and pepper
red crushed peppers to taste
onion soup mix
garlic powder
dried onions
paprika

bake on 425 for an hour during twice till good and crispy

Pie:
filling-
3 rhubarb things
5 thinly sliced and skinned green apples
1/2 of thing of strawberries cut into rough pieces
cinnamon
vanilla
sugar
flour

put in well greased pie plate with crust

topping-
brown sugar
flour
oatmeal
melted butter
mix and add to top of pie and bake on 375 for 35-45 minutes and serve with vanilla ice cream, creme fresh, sweetened ricotta, or whipped cream or light store bought whip cream.

Mini Apple Pies!!!

Hi Folks,
So this creation came from boredom, cabin fever in a snow storm and a burning desire for apple pie.

So all I had to work with the first time was one green apple and some leftover pie crust, this later turned into my new favorite desert!

Ingredients:
2 green apples roughly chopped, leave skin on
lemon juice
sugar
cinnamon
maple syrup
nutmeg
pie crust
milk

So first preheat your toaster oven to 350 and leave the timer on about 56 minutes.
Cut apples and place in bowl. Then add sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and lemon juice to taste.

After everything is mixed all good place apples in small ceramic bowls oven safe and add some maple syrup in. Cover with pie crust and slit the crust, drizzle a little milk and add some more sugar and cinnamon to the top. Bake for 45 ish minutes and enjoy these little jems.

Chicken Picatta with Andi

I made arrangements after much discussion to cook with a co-worker.
We would have never probably spoken to one another if it wasn't for our shared love of cooking. Cooking can truly be a great bonding moment and bring people together.
I arrived at her house on friday afternoon at 4pm and we discussed shopping and the menu.
We planned to make two soups, sadly not pictures, a chili variation of both of ours, and chicken soup, as well as for a main dish, Chicken Picatta shown here. We ventured to Market Basket, a great value super market and stuck strong to our list.
With very little distraction and ventured into a new friendship and cooking experience.

Our chickne picatta and fresh angel hair pasta and spinach is as follows:

4 Chicken breasts filleted and beaten flat.
lemon juice, and zest of 1.5 lemons and use half of 2nd lemon to garnish on table.
2 cups of chicken broth
a pour or white wine
3 tablespoons of parsley (finely chopped)
4 cloves of garlic (chopped)
1 shallot
2 eggs
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
bread crumbs
a stick of butter
EVOO
Mushrooms
4 tablespoons of capers

Heat oven on 200 degrees to keep chicken warm while you prepare sauce and pasta and spinach.

Soak chicken cutlets in egg with dijon mustard, salt and pepper for seasoning for 15 minutes. Dredge chicken in bread crumbs and place in olive oil and butter to medium heat on skillet and fry chicken for 5 minutes each side.

Place chicken on foil covered baking sheet to rest in oven after on 200 degrees.

After frying chicken saute mushrooms in the same pan, get a nice color on them and then add chicken broth, lemon, garlic, shallots, parsley, capers, 1.5 stick of butter, white wine, and lemon zest and let simmer for 4 t0 5 minutes until thickened.

In the mean time:

bring another pan of olive oil on med.high heat and place baby fresh spinach in pan with 2 cloves of chopped garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Saute till spinach wilts.

Boil water, place fresh angel hair for 60 seconds in pot with a dash of extra virgin olive oil.

Drain pasta and place on platter. Align chicken. Place spinach on sides of dish. Pour sauce over chicken and pasta and leave extra sauce for additional glazing for saucy preference. Enjoy with some white wine.

Roasted Chicken...Oh LA LA

Looks good huh?
Here's what you need:
A whole roasting chicken, this was about 6.5 lbs.
1 Lemon
1 Orange
Salt and Pepper
Garlic
Italian dressing.
Duck Sauce

I first dried the bird with paper towels, and then salt and pepper liberally. Zest half of the orange and squeeze the remaining juices on the chicken. Zest half of the lemon and squeeze remaining juices on as well.
Chop garlic and rub on as well and finish with some Italian dressing and duck sauce. Baste ever 20-30 minutes. When chicken it cooked about 2 hours. Place remaining juices in sauce pan and simmer and add a little flour to make the best gravy you have ever tasted. Then carve and serve and wait to be amazed at this tangy, tart, and sweet treat.

Potatoes and Salmon in 25 mins

take two yellow baking potatoes, kinda small about the size of a baseball and microwave for 1 minute. Put toaster oven on for 450 degrees and line pan with tin foil. After microwaving potatoes, slice with mandolin in thin chip like slices. Put on lined trey with oil and salt and pepper and garlic. Place in oven.

Preheat big oven for 350 degrees. Place salmon on tin foil lined trey, coat with a thin layer of mayo, orange juice, salt and pepper, crushed garlic, and lots of lemon juice, and some mustard, dijon works best but any except yellow will do. Bake for 15-20 minutes.

Potatoes should get crispy and brown. Make sure they don't stick to bad to the pan by moving them around or peeling them off half way through, flip if desired.

After salmon is almost done, put broil on and nicely glaze top so there is some nice color to the salmon.

Add some a small salad on the side and enjoy this 3-7pm meal.

So I made these amazing waffles from scratch! they took almost 24 hours of prep, they call for flour, yeast, honey, 1.2 lb of butter, and the secret special ingredient where I had to go to east Jesus for is PEARL SUGAR.

You use 10 oz of this stuff!

They are so worth it and freeze so well!

Except I have a warning, my family and I had these waffles last night for desert, and no one could sleep. I think it may have been all the sugar in them. They are amazing! google any liege waffle recipe I like to look for ones with Honey in them and Vanilla and try them out yourself, you will be amazed at how good they are.

A Mitvzah in a Quiche form

Wow I know what you guys are thinking....another quiche from Cori, well this one is extra special.

It was a completely selfish act for another nice person.

On Monday night Russ came to visit me for my documentary's broadcast debut on Oregon Lens on OPB. We were having a lot of guests over and I was pretty stressed and excited about the impending TV watching. We went out to diner for a quick bite because I didn't know if he had eaten diner and I had already started to prepare some left over's from the weekend's meals. I was just cooking some frozen spinach in garlic and pepper when he decided we should just go out to eat instead. I put everything in Tupperware and we went to Glenwood restaurant on Willamette. I enjoy this place for everything and I have a particular favorite wait staff member named Bill. Gretchen and I always seem to go there and he waits on us with a big smile and we always have lovely conversations with him. He considers us some what regular patrons and is always happy to see us.

So Russ had the chicken parmigiana which is very good there, made in a slightly healthier manner then say Olive Garden and with a twist is portobello mushrooms are added in with the chicken and sauce all served on top of some zitti. I got the lemon herb chicken which is so tasty. Its served with a creamy garlic and buttery sauce and a lemon wedge. I got mashed potatoes as a side and vegetables instead of salad or soup because I wasn't in the mood for salad or soup.

Well after this lovely quick bite and interesting conversation we checked out only to come across a small problem. Russ forgot his wallet and I had nothing with me. Well Bill was really kind and did a little like hail Mary type thing, and said it was on him tonight. I thought that was really nice of him to do, so I knew I had to return the favor some how. I thought it would be rude just to go in there and give him some money, so I thought what better way to return the nice honest gesture then with something home made. First I thought maybe some art...but then I thought I could cook him something. So I had some extra ingredients lying around and an extra pie crust and pie pan. I got some half and half down at Sundance and some eggs and whipped up a nice little Green quiche.

I thought it would be a good idea to keep it vegetarian because I wasn't sure of Bill's dietary needs. So it consisted of some broccoli, green onions, spinach, and pesto. I also added some Parmesan cheese, pepper jack cheese, and some aged cheddar. I baked it on 350 for about 47 minutes. I broiled it at the end just to get a nice browning on the top. It came out and smelt so good.

I then wrote Bill out a nice note and delivered it to his place of work. He was so thankful for my kind and warm gesture. He said "bless your heart" it was really nice. I felt so good after. He even gave me a little zen bow of generosity.

So I was just making quiches, doin mitzvah's and takin names.

Another classic original quiche recipe from yours truly.

prep: well the night before while I was cooking my pasta meal I broiled some of the extra red peppers, and added some baby portobello mushrooms and burnt broccoli. I glazed them with extra virgin olive oil and garlic and salt and pepper and threw them in some Tupperware for the next day.

Day of making quiche.

I made my famous roasted potatoes with lipton onion soup mix, some cayenne pepper and 21 season salute from traders and go those started in the oven for our side.

While the potatoes were started to get yummy in the oven I caramelized one onion. The key to caramelizing is butter and EVOO and medium and just let them sit and become translucent and add S & P for taste and for browning I add some granulated sugar.

Quiche mixture:
Add veggies from night before.
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups of half and half
grated aged cheddar
grated pepper jack cheese
Parmesan cheese
S & P
mix in large bowl.

then I add it to the pre-bought crust. sorry folks even my mother who made the best quiche and pie in the world did not even make her own crust. then I topped the quiche off with caramelized onions and put it in a 350 degree over for about an hour and then broiled it off to get the top extra caramel and good.

When the quiche was almost done, I fried up some extra crispy bacon and crumbled it up using it to top the whole thing off. When all was done we served it with a side of fruit of strawberries and nectarines.

My one other idea to make this brunch even slightly more rich and delicious would be to top the quiche and bacon off with a dill hollandaise sauce.

Grilled goodness and Fresh Pasta

Well this was a great meal I made from the usual suspects chicken, eggplant, red peppers, fresh angel hair and pesto.

Chicken: Marinated a few hours in advance in
Orange Juice
Lemon
Lemon Zest
Paul Newman's Caesar dressing and Italian
Lots of Garlic
Salt n' Pepper

Grilled up so its dank.

Then I had some cut up eggplant and red peppers that I rubbed with love and extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper and some fresh garlic. Grilled those along side the chicken for a yummy side dish.Then I made some pre-bought fresh angel hair from Market of choice and tossed it with some butter, Parmesan cheese and pesto from trader joes and market of choice.

Sorry for not having a picture of the final dish but I cut up the chicken in slices and served in on top of the pesto and the veggies on the side. we concluded the evening with dominoes and a classy game of beer pong.

Belly

Belly is a great new northwest inspired local eatery in the 5th street market area of Eugene. It is really added to the build up of the once run down and lame downtown district.

I went out for diner on a Friday night with my love and we came across it from the Internet.

Being a nice Jewish girl on shabbos I put my Jew bling on and order up the special which was the pork chop with a cherry glaze and served with deliciously smooth mashed potatoes and roasted kale it was so good. The pork chop was grilled to perfection with slight chard on the exterior that surrounded its juicy core.

The sauce was sweet and tangy and perfect for dipping the potatoes and cheesy herbed biscuit rolls that were served prior to the meal.

My boyfriend enjoyed the flank steak. It was served with fresh thick cut heirloom tomatoes. Red, Yellow, and Orange variety. The steak was served medium rare which I told him is the only way to have steak. It was topped with a yummy crunchy topping made of corn and other ingredients. It was accompanied with some fresh green beans to complete this hearty and homey meal.

Belly was legit for Eugene dining. The prices were awesome and moderate for gourmet, organic and local food. The setting was quaint and romantic. The area near the train tracks is really becoming a gentrified area in Lane county. When the train went by the restaurant rumbled and the train roared through, hardly interrupting are amazing evening. The seating is limited so go early or make a reservation because this place is going to get big and your going to want to eat there.

We were very inspired after our delisicio meal that we then went out to the movies to see Julie & Julia. It was a great ending to our Friday night together.

MIX :
Tim's Hawaii Spicy BBQ chips, which are sweet and spicy.
New York Bagel Chips in the Everything flavor. (funny side note: the link will actually bring you to Amazon.com where you can apparently buy bagel chips...there are even used ones)
Corn Chips any variety, I actually took the remainders of my roommates chips.

I served this mix with salsa.

So yesterday I ventured to 7th and Van Buren in eugene, OR for an Off the Waffle experience, I had only heard from word of mouth from some jews about these other crazy jews opening this waffle place where they have a book exchange and you can barter.

yes, I said barter.

they have a wall of barter needs and offerings.

their waffles are fucking amazing! they have these pockets of carmel sugar and it is devine!!!! its a must go.

the sons are also taking part in this neighborhood initiative to encorporate bartering on a small scale to create a community based on bartering similiar to a kibbutz in Israel or a co-op community.

So we went down from Santa Monica boardwalk to Venice beach and I had a very mediocre sandwich in a small boardwalk cafe and then for group diner number one we went to this redic themed Italian restaurant that was near our hostel and we were pretty wiped out and sun burnt so a nice family meal sounded good. It was decorated with all this kitschy stuff and they give you a fake tour of the kitchen.

chain like Doug Wilson from Weeds would say,

The LA Food Story part 1

So this one time we decided to stop in this quaint little town called Solvang.
It is down the 101 off of 41 from Kettleman City. It is a completely Danish themed town.
The town wanted to create an environment for the Danish immigrants and they thought if they build a school and a community around it, they will come and they did. they brought these lovely

Well this is a new one.
I guess I have really been creative in the kitchen in these economic times and have gone back to use it or loose it methods.
IE what-the-F should I do with these many random items in my fridge before they go bad?
So this is what came of a Saturday morning creation.

Ingredients:

3 eggs
heavy cream, whatever was left over from the last quiche
left over roasted vegetable from the other night: carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, onions and garlic
ham
extra sharp aged cheddar cheese
a pie crust
maple syrup

Preparation:

I cracked the eggs in a big mixing bowl with the cream and added some cheese. how ever much or as little as you want. The I added the remaining Tupperware of veggies. I fried up the ham in a skillet with maple syrup. I thought it would be good to have a nice sweet and savory combination, probably my favorite taste bud experience. I cut up the ham after it was nicely browned with caramelized edges. added to the egg mixture. Add a pie crust to the baking pan and add ingredients in. I baked this in a 375 oven for an hourish I wasn't really paying attention to the time but when its nice and golden and slightly burnt at the top is a good time to take it out.

I made chicken fettuccine Alfredo and spinach and then I had some morning star veggie soy bullshit nuggets as well as REAL chicken, I was thinking its just some more protein...but it almost had the texture of real chicken nuggets. the strange thing was I really didn't HATE them....

I had potatoes my famous ones tonight and then heated up some doctored up left overs or as I like to call them L.O.'s
These were chicken cutlets that I soaked in egg and then breaded them with seasoned breadcrumbs with red hot chili pepper flakes, Parmesan cheese, basil, and 21 seasoning salute. the pasta is linguine with vodka sauce and fresh cherry tomatoes and covered and cheesed and baked off kinda like a mock pasta bake.

Sandy Sunday

Mmm Brunch once again, this time no prime rib.
Still an abundance of seafood casserole which I had some mild guilt taking.
The hard working server boys were just staring waiting for their turn.
On one hand I don't care about them because they are just local high school kids who don't talk to me and don't seem that interesting other then their cherub boyish faces. But I know they work 10X harder then me because well lets face it, like right now, I am blogging at work, and they are cleaning up nasty food debris.
But enough guilt I got a better pick while they watched.
The bartender for some reason got an official invite by Chefy to eat while I just followed because no one ever tells me its time to eat, which means I have to be extra scavenger like in order to get something good around here.
Fuck those blitzes that no one ever touches, I want the good stuff, and the prime rib is probably the most prized brunch option.
There was only fat left today.
So I had some turkey or chicken unclear what it is for sure, that was stuffed with lots of stuffing, and oats were spread about, assuming they were part of the stuffing. It was OK, it reminded me of The Century House Epicurean Shoppe. There was some light gravy, but obvi if there were leftovers it wasn't such a winner today out of the proteins.
Some eggs Benedict looked sad with oats on the bottom of their trey, maybe the oats scared people away.
Over all my favorite guilty pleasure of the spread is probably the soggy Cesar salad. I don't know why, but its just really good and covered in dressing and cheese. It reminds me of the time I spent a weekend with my friend Zach Rose in Portland, OR where after a night of bar hoping he indulged himself in leftover soggy Cesar salad.
The scallops are aways yummy with the rich seafood filling on my plate and the touch of sand in between my teeth always makes me think of the ocean, and sitting on the beach with a sandwich with sand inside.

Getting up early on a Sunday for working the brunch shift at the yacht club officially has its extremely awesome bennys!

Lets start with the chocolate fountain they had set up. Yummy for no reason. The spread was unbelievable for these Sunday patrons and the staff got the leftovers!

It included LO's of all kinds of delish. I helped myself to some Caesar salad, prime rib, seafood casserole which included: lobster, shrimp, succulent scallops, and cod. I also had some green beans and other various steamed veggies, and a diet coke. I went for the more savory option because lets face it, when in Rome, it the goods. There was also an array of breakfast option including eggs Benedict which according to health codes should be left out because the sauce has to be at a certain temperature at all times or it starts to grow bacteria (thanks A.Bourdain). Blitz's with jam, Belgian waffles, scrambled eggs which I think came from a carton, home fried potatoes (same family of fried goodness as the french fries they feed us), sausages, cream cheese and bagels, fresh fruit, cakes of all kinds. These brunch left overs don't even start to compare to the weekly grind of the other crap they often serve us the staff here. I am very happy getting up at 8am on Sunday knowing I will have some delish-ness lunch waiting for me. Also some manic over drugged yacht club women picking out the right color sweatshirts and visors.

Camp Food

At my Job I get fed, depending on the times of day I work depends on the meal. I work at a yacht club on the Marblehead neck. It is a great location to vacation and live all year round. As my friend Danny said, dear friend, Jewish counter part I could not be getting any more Waspy then working here but the pay is good and the work is easy. So I can't leave my desk, which is the front desk, so I eat here. Yesterday I worked from 9am to 9pm so I got lunch and dinner. for lunch I took a chance at the Canteen downstairs which serves the pool people and such for a more casual dining experience I tried the turkey club, the turkey was of good quality but the bacon was limpy and undercooked. The chips were great but they sure cut corners around here with staff meals, I was lucky to get some chips, no pickles or anything. The chips are great though. They are just like I got when I went to Jewish day school for lunch. uber thick and dry and crispy not greesy like lays. for dinner I got a light grill because on mondays and tuesday dining room service is different. the light grill consists of hamburger/cheeseburger, hot dog or chicken. I got some chicken again nothing else but a piece of grilled chicken with bbq sauce on it. I was really glad I got to go home early because I was pretty hungry after that piece of chicken.
Today I overheard the chef talking about making western sandwhiches for lunch today and I knew I wouldn't like that so I got something from the canteen today. this time I spoke to the head chef dude downstairs. all the bros work in the canteen or galley kitchen. all the young hott townie boys. so they hooked me up with a grilled chicken sandwhich with cheese and bacon and mayo with some chips delish as ever and some pickles. I asked for them on the side and they said it was pushing it. I went downstairs to pick up my lunch in a box with a diet coke and to my surpise I had made a good choice today. To my suprise again I was rewarded with a second lunch from the upstairs kitchen staff. that western sandwhich I was avoiding, but I could not, not eat it, that would be rude so I took it back to the desk and indulged in lunch number two which came about an hour after lunch number one. the sandwhich was suprisinly tasty, with a grilled buttered bun and a well cooked egg. it had little pieces of ham and onions and pepers in there too it came with these weird french fries, that are almost double fried, with a strange breading, they come with EVERYTHING! last friday was camp pizza and french fries.
to my suprise AGAIN! I actually got some fresh fruit on my lunch plate today, it was fab. I am warming up to the chef in hopes for some good leftovers eventually maybe a lobster roll by the end of the summer or something. fingers crossed! but the kitchen smells like a camp kitchen and the food they give us is probably about the same standard.

Tomato Scare

I should have known this evening was off to an odd start, with the weather. It was extremely windy and dark skied with pink coming through the storm clouds. We went to Pegasus Pizza near the University of Oregon. I was really in the mood for a sandwich and to my surprise they only have two sandwiches. Meatball sub or some weird warm chicken sub with terayaki or bbq, (gross). So meatball it was. half ass put together on a lame ass hoagie roll it was a sorry excuse for what an Italian meatball sub was all about. too bad my dinner wasn't the main cause of this blog entry.it was the sliced tomatoes that other patrons brought by themselves to put atop there pizza. . the only thing I can think of that would cause these odd tourist to want to bring their own sliced tomatoes was the tomato scare with salminila (sp). oddly though they still ordered pizza with tomato sauce which to be seems to defeat the purpose of bringing your own possibly safe tomatoes knowing you will still get poisoned by another establishments bad tomatoes.

So I went to Costco the other day, it was a Tuesday so the samples were slim, about 3 food demos and 2 random sell this house or BMW motorcycle demos, of course the cell phone hacks and contact lens people as well. I have discovered it truly a mystical place much like in the sureallity of the movie King of California. Michael Douglas plays a deranged father who just got released from a 2 year mental institution stay for trying to kill himself. His 16 year old daughter has been taking care of herself. He has a idea to find an ancient Spanish treasure set out to believed to be underneath Costco. according to Michael Douglas the movie was shot in 31 one days.

This brings me to my new affection for both Costco, its employees, its Ravioli, and of course the check out food at the end. It is a symbol of your over indulgence in consumer culture, large quantities and what it is to be an American.

I have been making one of these every morning for almost two weeks now. I have tried multiple variation's on them. I usually start with a butter and oil based and coat the bread and fry it and drop the egg in and add salt and pepper. cook till soupy and flip and melt a piece of kraft cheese over it. the plastic cheese is best for perfect melt-tation. serve up and enjoy with some bacon or ham and some breakfast smoothie, yum yum.

So I just conjured the most college casserole ever. Its semi on the lines of white trash but it seemed to turn out pretty good and if it taste good eat it right? Here is what you will need, a Box of Annies mac and cheese and make it as directed using extra butter and milk and dump in a casserole dish.

then I cooked up some bacon nice and crisp and cut it up into nice pieces and sprinkled it over the mac n cheese. get it nice and worked in there.

Next step is to sprinkle with any sort of grated cheese you have on hand, i had a 4 cheese blend of Italian cheese. then I sprinkled on top of that bread crumbs for a crunchy texture because my favorite mac n cheese always has a crunchy topping.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 7 minutes then put on broil for about 5 minutes to brown the topping. than enjoy with some white wine and your favorite tv show preferably in front of the tv.

I was at the Erb Memorial Union aka the Student Union or we call it the EMU for short, I have written once before about this mystical place in the center of campus, at the University of Oregon at their quick stop convenient store where I often get recognized for my campus tv show appearance on the beloved RA Deal. So I was really hankering for a cookie, the packages Chips Ahoy! did nothing for the pirate in me, and the ones in plastic wrap never seem to be that fresh.
So I picked up this WOW cookie with NO Gluten, No Wheat and No transfat. Some of the ingredients are brown rice, and coconut. It was better then any cookie that could come out of a package. It was as moist as a turned on college student inside and crumbly on the outside.

I have never been one for healthfood but being in Eugene,OR really pushed it on hard. This cookie was enjoyable and somewhat healthy. Although still containing sugar, it had other all natural ingredients to keep you going for the day and have a sweet treat to lift you up.

So My roommate Travis and I went to Costco and a stalked freezer is a really nice sight. Interesting combination of stoner foods you can see mostly. I can't claim ownership to most of the process foods. I did get some chicken breast that I use frequently for chicken cutlets. I also purchased some quesadilla's for those lazy afternoons. Fish sticks are a go too, also for lazyness in the kitchen. when I think frozen burrito, I think of Casey from Laguna Beach. She is so wealthy because her grandfather invented the frozen burrito. most of the other empty calorie snacks are my roommate Travis's who is a guys guy. So far I don't think he cooks anything that doesn't come out of a box. Jalalpeno poppers, pizza bagels, frozen meat patties, hot pockets, he likes things that don't go bad and could outlive a war.

Side door showcases are high quality of vodka. the Burnetts again is Travis's and I can't look at Burnetts the same really ever since my friend Ailee got me into coconut Burnetts, until that faitful night where I found out Malibu was way better! the Aboslute is a homage to my mother who only drinks vodka, or seltza water or a combination of both but no other beverage really enters her body but those.

Worst meal ever!!!
I should have known eating with my notoriously Eugene friendly eating establishment with my friend Nikki the vegetarian where every salad taste the same and side dishes are a favorite, no knowledge of the establishments lack of meat we go to Cafe Yum off Willamette on a rainy Sunday after a big weekend of the ducks game. Eugene was not on its game that day and neither was my meal. I had to send it back 2 times and would have sent it back a third if I was a true bitch. the Yum sauce was terrible! like the grossest thing I could ever sauce anything with. it was a mixture of curry and Eugene with a dash of throw up. it was covered in everything I ordered the Yum Wrap which was basically like a qusdillah and at first they brought it out with Beans which i specified NO BEANS so back once again and it comes out with massive amonts of YUM SAUCE aka baby puke and all the lovely fresh avacado and melted cheese was invaded by Nazi Curry Sauce. Invading of the Yum was my worst meal yet. I was hungry all weekend.

my last day of interning at Powderhouse Production we went to this new cup cake place in Davis sq called Killer cupcakes, they were not THAT killer, they were somewhat overpriced and I was unimpressed to say the least at the quality of my enjoyment after my cupcake, but it was nice to get a cupcake during work that matched my outfit that day.

Montees Pizza located in Lynn Mass is an institution. situated under the train tracks you can hear and feel the rumble of the commuter rail go by every 20 or so minutes. this does not effect the gourmet dining experience. its know by the locals as cardboard. the pizza is as thin as the cardboard from the dry cleaners that comes with your pressed shirts.its served crispy and brown. house salad is from a bag with some added extras but the secret is the dressing a mixture of vinegar sugar and Italian like dressing its served in your personal plastic mixture for you to soak your goodness in. pizza takes about 20 minutes and the Montees special is a sure treat. with chopped salami cubes crisped brown and CANNED mushrooms, peppers, which we hold, and chopped sweet onions its middle heavy with a crispy crust. you can get any pizza frozen for home made baking and delivery is always busy. with a full bar i learned about cranberry lemonade. my waitress didn't know what a Arnold Palmer was so i told her half and half, one pie is about 10 dollars and if your really hungry you can finish it solo.

I am sitting surrounded by great company on vday and the waitress says, HEY! i love your hair! she may have a girl crush on my and worship the food ground i walk on but she sure knows how to push those Pizzokies. Pizzokies are Bjs specialty which are giant cookies baked in a pizza pan under a conveyer belt oven to give a gooey inside and chewy outside. our waitress sells them by telling people they aren't necessarily big enough to share because she eats them alone at night after work when she takes them home and gets the munchies. she keeps them in the fridge and then eats them when she gets hunger at 12:30 in bed.

i ordered the sliders for the first time and Zach and i shared the onion rings which were drenched in oil and served with a zesty ranch and ranch sauce for dipping. the sliders don't come with cheese but make sure to ask for them because these mini burgers are deliciously juicy angus beef with sautéed onions and served with lettuce and pickles. fries are on the side for an extra dollar and the triangle shaped plate really made this meal lift off like a rocket ship!

the meal was complete when Sierra ordered the Bjs beer sampler that photographed terrifically. it went from the lightest hoppy beer to dark bold Guinness like. over all it was a pleasurable experience had by all.

I discovered finally tonight that i could exchange the extra patty of beef for bacon. so i now and most pleased with the cheeseburger special for under $6 served with fresh produce and crispy fries.

i have these pink fags that go great with any meal.

lastly, a pile of jewish shit which is part of my cover of my new jewish hipster magazine i am inventing.

i ate at sweet basil over the weekend and was extremely unhappy with the food except for the amazing tai ice tea thanx for Zach Rose who turned me onto it. a sweet and creamy delight with anything spicy. i also went to the Phatty Snack shack and tasted the great taste of Bruno the head chef of this west 11th establishment. i had a sloppy joe like no other, it included hot velveta like cheese and bacon! also lettuce and tomato which i could have lived without. but over all an amazing eating experience my confidant went with me and our total for lunch-dinner was under $9 for an enormous amount of food....aside from the crystal balls and homeless personal i am going back tomorrow!

so its great to be back in eugene, except for the lack of delicious food, which means i will just have to cook more delicious food and tell you about my techniques, i am very excited to inform everyone that my roommate got a juicer AND a magic bullet so i can now tell all of you about these supposed cool kitchen gadgets. i am pissed at the lack of selection at my local safe way, i was looking for the and i figured they would have them considering how convenient they making cooking for one but No they didn't even have purdue products. geez what does it take to get some quality chicken in this town!

my digital camera is still out for repairs so i hope i get that back soon so i can start reporting more restaurant trips again.

our first stop was to Bob's discount furniture to pretend to look for a new couch. in this furniture store they give out complimentary candy of all kinds including: bob's individualy wrapped gummy bears, sour patch kids, carmels and many other great assorted novelties. along with free candy is FREE ice cream, popcorn and
cookies to help you shop for discount furniture. you can also play complimentary video games or watch a great family film all in the comfort of yes folks a furniture store. other stores offer free air hockey and mini golf, we always go for the free candy and cookies, they are freshly baked, moist and crumbly. fresh popcorn is popped every day and served in old fashion buckets in an old fashion lamp heated display. free ice cream and frozen yogurt go great as well as the notice on candies that contain nuts!

for dinner we went to Salem Beer Works, a great institution.

seasonal blueberry beer is brewed right on the premise with fresh blueberries to float your beer belly away, great with any of the many delicious dishes they serve, and if you get one of their delightful dinners it is served atop of mashed potatoes a fresh potatoe chip the size of a 11 X9 1/2 sheet of computer paper and thin as one too.

in the large seating area which is dark and brick filled to allow for the circulation of conversations of locals saying "go red sox in december and go bruins" is a giant 30 X40 green neon witch to symbolize Salem the witch city where hundreds of years ago crazy bored children accused innocent town folk of witch craft and will be forever known as the witch city. one of their burgers, the witch city red is served with caralized onions and swiss cheese atop about a 1inch think patty of sirloin and ground beef.

we ordered the usual and yummy finger foood. a large order of buffalo wings, half wings half boneless. i prefer the boneless because you get more meat and don't have to get your finger nails gross and your lips don't burn as much because you can cut them and insert them directly in your mouth versus getting the buffalo sauce all over your lips and fingers and having the burning sensation for hours. but the pro to bone in wings is more flavor but they are extremely accomidating to allow for a half order of both. to accomany the wings and fingers was a side order of sweet potatoe french fries. i have never seen such a wide variety of french fries on any menu they include: fire fries which are hott and delicious and served with a cool dill ranch sauce and sour cream and onion fries YUM! the sweet potatoes are served with a rasberry malt vinger which really compliment the flavors of the sweet crunchy fries and balance the hott spices from the wings. the wings come with some tasty chunky blue cheese and celery sticks a classic combo.

my personal chef and mother made me some breakfast today. i am not a big breakfast person usually because i don't rise early enough for the occasion or my not big interest in eggs. i once heard a quote on a reality show that eggs are chicken abortions so it kinda makes me queesy to think about eating abortionized baby chicken. well it doesn't stop me that much, i have eaten eggs 3 times since i have been home. i only trust eggs to eat out at one place in the entire universe called Maria's the other is when my mother makes me a scrambled egg with white cheese and white cheese only. so she made me a nice country breakfast this morning they way she does it best a scrambled egg with white cheese. one of the secrets to her successful eggs and adding milk while scrambling them, they come out fluffy and delicious. i also will not eat eggs with any brown on them or burnt of any kind, i know PICKY!!!! but its just how i am. so to accompany the egges was some ham and whole weat oat toast from the portugiese bakery down the st.
i love putting maple syrup on my ham its a great compliment to the salty taste, its salty sweet and chewy and delicious.
for lunch i walked to Bill and Bobs and decided to supersize and go for the super beef instead of the Jr. today. you might say i am spulrging but i asked what the difference is between jr and regular and she said the jr was 3oz and the super was 4oz so i went for 4oz of tender, moist, rare thinly sliced roast beef and side of fries and some agent orange, oragne soda.

I let Bean (my mother) look through some photos on my computer of when we went out with my grandmother and Haroald for her 91st birthday. she went a little to far and looked through my old photos that were on my computer from the end of fall term. "Cori, who is this guy in the video store?" i had no idea, i knew who she asked was at Sizzler and a napkin with "taco meat" written on it but i didn't remember taking any pictures in a video store. i looked at the photo and said, "mom thats not just some guy, its Ron Jeremy and thats not a video store" who is he she asked? bill and bobs has presumably the worlds best roast beef sandwich and as i enjoyed my lunch today it occured to me that yes in fact it is the worlds best roast beef. thinly sliced and red and rare is how it is served hott right off the slicer. i get mine with sauce, or ketchup in lame-men terms and its a suculent treasure served with fresh freedom fries as they still call the, crispy and well done in a french fry cup with french fries on the outside. a streyphoam cup of orange soda goes great to wash down the greesy goodness.

the carpet welcomes you and yes it is the worlds best, from the outside of the building you might think this janky joint is not the best with its rotting siding and island tropic picture decore inside but with its fresh roast beef and crispy fries they can not be beet.

Fantasy Island is the home of drunk karaoke singing Massholes and some of the greatest tastiest cantonese chinese style food I have found yet on this planet.

As my father and I were seated in the exact same booth as we sat in only months ago when I was home last, it occured to me they do not card here, and with a smile, you can recieve extra bread at no cost. by the way, what chinese resturant can you name who gives you bread with your meal? none I thought so...

I started off by ordering a sprite, which came to me in the form of ginger ale. the waiter then informed me that they only have ginger ale not sprite, i asked for sprite i said, he asked me what kind of rice, steamed? no no sir, SPRITE. which then i realized Spirte, can be confused as Sprice, there for steamed rice. sprite, rice, steamed rice. i then asked for a Dr.pepper. he said oh yes we have that....no no its in a can. he came back empty handed no dr.pepper here. ok i will have a coke. "coke in a can?" no no sir coke in a glass with ice. "sorry we only have pepsi" ok....pepsi is fine.

we ordered: garlic pan fried noodles which are delightfully delicious with green onions and garlic sautéed in a walk. then pork strips which are tender pork cutlets with orange ho san sauce which are delicious when dipped into duck sauce and hot mustard. you may ask yourself what is duck sauce? well its the sauce they cook chinese duck in. its a sweet brown sauce which goes great with just about every appetizer. lastly, is fantasy steak. small tender steak bites aged and marinated for seems like days in a secret sauce which i have uncovered as a mix of teriakey(spelling) and something else delicious.

for the final course it included tri-colored and flavored fortune cookies which left us with some very insightful thoughts and fresh canned pineapple. "you have a life of happiness ahead of you" + "the egg will walk someday but not before it cracks"
